Boil the frog is a website by echonest. Essentially, it allows you to enter two recording artists and it creates a playlist that seamlessly takes you from one to the other. i tested it, creating a playlist that would take me from Weezer, an alternative rock group from the USA, to Miles Davis - the legendary Jazz musician |
I have to say it did a fantastic job of "boiling" me. Working on laptop i realised it had worked when i found myself listening to John Coltrane with Davis' Gone Gone Gone up next with no jolting transitions.
More great features of the service are a fantastic range of musicians, the playlist is generated almost instantly and the design of the site is very slick and simple to use .
Due to its link with Rdio there are a few issues which slightly mar the user experience. The first is ads; an issue players like groove shark do not encounter. the second would be not being able to export the playlist to something like Spotify. More experimental music of the likes of BBNG aren't available and the quality of the sound is below average to increase stream speeds which can really be annoying with older recordings.
